and so christmas has been thrown in my face for the last few weeks.
the yuletide decorations were mixed in with the halloween costumes before i had even determined that i could not afford to buy myself a super girl outfit. the mall music system went from playing the beatles for the rockband release, straight to bing crosby without missing a “pa rum pum pum pum”. and now, i have been edged out of listening to three of my favorite radio stations because they are on a non-stop christmas music marathon.
while it is true that we are only a week away from thanksgiving, it still seems a bit early for me. yes, i have packed up the halloween decorations, but i haven’t put them away yet. i haven’t even finished eating all the candy. talk about pressure.
and so, i have decided that i will only have christmas thrust upon me if it is done on my terms. i have pulled out my bob rivers christmas cd’s and such holiday movie classics as; “the ref”, “scrooged”, “national lampoon’s christmas vacation” and “home for the holidays”. these films show the season as it really is, at least “as it is” in my world. lots of confusion, chaos, dysfunction, swearing and the occasional turkey being dropped on someone’s head.
i offer this list to you as an early gift. however, if you’re looking for something a little more violent in your seasonal classic, don’t forget, “gremlins” was a christmas movie too.
